Bill Poulter: $100,000 REIT Complaint Against LPL Advisor

Baton Rouge financial advisor Bill Poulter (CRD# 3248404) has received an investor complaint alleging six-figure losses. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and investment advisor with LPL Financial, doing business as Poulter Investment Advisors.

Mr. Poulter’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint against him. Filed in November 2021, it alleges that as a representative of Poulter Investment Advisors, he made misrepresentations and provided unsuitable advice regarding purchases of illiquid real estate investment trusts (REITs) and a business development company. The pending complaint alleges damages of $101,735.

In a statement on the November 2021 pending complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Poulter wrote that he “vehemently oppose[s]” the claim, which he describes as “untrue” and meritless. “The features, benefits, and all risks of recommended investments were fully discussed with and acknowledged by the client prior to purchase,” he wrote, continuing: “Furthermore, the client received, read, and acknowledged suitability and his understanding of the features, benefits, and all risks of recommended investments by signing applicable disclosure forms which detailed the potential for liquidity restrictions and the potential for investment losses… Overall, the client’s portfolio performed well and it provided proper diversification, liquidity, and income.”

Based in Baton Rouge, Indiana, he has been a representative of LPL Financial since 2002, doing business as Poulter Investment Advisors since 2014.
