Glen Gatlin: $9 Million Complaint Against Fort Worth Advisor

Merrill Lynch financial advisor Glen Gatlin (CRD# 1734089) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his investment advice led to $9 million in damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and an investment advisor based in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mr. Gatlin’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in August 2022, it alleges that as a representative of Merrill Lynch, he misappropriated funds, made misrepresentations of material information, and executed unauthorized transfers in relation to retirement accounts. The pending complaint alleges damages of $9,000,000.

Misrepresentation denotes a broker’s provision of false information regarding an investment or investment strategy. A broker may engage in fraudulent misrepresentation, in which they intentionally give misleading information to deceive the customer into purchasing an investment, or they may engage in negligent misrepresentation, in which the misleading information is a result of carelessness. Common forms of misrepresentation include those regarding the risk of an investment: broker might portray a highly risky product, for instance, as safe and conservative, causing an investor to purchase an unsuitable product. Investors who lose money on investments that were misrepresented may be able to bring a claim against their broker.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Glen Gatlin holds 32 years of securities industry experience. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with Merrill Lynch since 2010. His past registrations include Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Citigroup Global Markets, Legg Mason Wood Walker, UBS Painewebber, Dean Witter Reynolds, First Dallas Securities, and Rauscher Pierce Refsnes. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 30 state licenses. (Information current as of August 26, 2022.)
