Jason Slezak: GWG Complaint Against Antioch Advisor

Landolt Securities broker Jason Slezak (CRD# 2423323) has received an investor complaint concerning investments in GWG L bonds. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker registered in Antioch, Illinois, with 24 state licenses.

Mr. Slezak’s BrokerCheck report discloses one pending investor complaint against him. Filed in 2022, it alleges that as a representative of Landolt Securities, he failed to disclose risks associated with an investment in GWG L bonds. The complaint alleges further that the presentation he gave on the product was not fair, and that it “did not include a balanced discussion of the features and risks, including the credit risk of the default associated with GWG [H]oldings Inc.” The pending complaint alleges damages of $25,000.

In a statement on the pending complaint, Mr. Slezak said the customer renewed her L-bond investment “without my involvement and not on my recommendation.” In April 2021, he wrote further, GWG suspended the sales of new L-bonds, after which the customer continuing receiving monthly interest payments until GWG suspended such interest payments, as well as principal payments for maturing L-bonds, in January 2022.

Mr. Slezak’s BrokerCheck report also discloses a 2006 sanction against him by the New York Stock Exchange Division of Enforcement. According to the disclosure, he was charged by the NYSE with “failing to get prior approval before sending a letter soliciting a potential customer’s market timing business,” a charge on which he was found guilty by a hearing board. (He was found not guilty of other charges alleged in the NYSE’s sanction.) He was accordingly censured by the hearing board.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Jason Slezak holds 28 years of securities industry experience. Based in Antioch, Illinois, he has been a representative of Landolt Securities since 2009. His past registrations include Birkelbach Management Corp (Chicago, Illinois; 2007-2011), Kingsbury Capital Investment Advisors (Chicago, Illinois; 2008-2009), Brewer Financial Services (Chicago, Illinois; 2008-2009), Birkelbach Investment Securities (Chicago, Illinois; 2002-2008), Wachovia Securities (St. Louis, Missouri; 2000-2002), Merrill Lynch (New York, New York; 1999-2000), Stifel Nicolaus & Company (St. Louis, Missouri; 1997-1999). Rodman & Renshaw (Chicago, Illinois; 1995-1997), and The Chicago Corporation (Chicago, Illinois; 1994-1995). His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65.
