Jeffrey Furniss: Oil & Gas Complaint Against Charter Financial Advisor

Annapolis financial advisor Jeffrey Furniss (CRD# 4888498) allegedly recommended unsuitable oil and gas investments, according to investor complaints against him. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered with Lincoln Financial Advisors Corporation and works a representative of Charter Financial Group, which offers securities through Lincoln. 

Mr. Furniss’s BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. The most recent, filed in May 2022, alleges that as a representative of Lincoln Financial Advisors, he recommended an unsuitable oil and gas investment. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages believed to be greater than $5,000.

In a statement on the May 2022 complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Furniss wrote that the “This complaint is without merit in every respect because some investments lose money unfortunately.” He described the investment in question as “part of a holistic cash flow plan looking at her expenses and lifetime needs,” and stated that the “risks were explained and documented, and Atlas was approved by Lincoln our broker dealer and was suitable as allocated for this client.”

A second complaint, filed in 2017, alleged that Mr. Furniss made unsuitable recommendations and failed to disclose important facts in regards to investments a variable annuity, a real estate investment trust, and an oil and gas program. In 2018 the complaint reached a settlement of $150,000. In a statement on the disclosure, Mr. Furniss wrote that he “denies any merits to these claims” and noted that he “did not contribute to the settlement and admitted no liability.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Jeffrey Furniss holds 17 years of securities industry experience. Based in Annapolis, Maryland, he is a representative of Charter Financial Group and has been registered with Lincoln Financial Advisors Corporation since 2005. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE. He is licensed in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
