Joseph Langlois: $870K Complaint Against DFPG Investments Advisor

San Jose financial advisor Joseph Langlois (CRD# 4216281) has received an investor complaint alleging his recommendations led to six-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authorities show that he is currently a broker and investment advisor with DFPG Investments.

Mr. Langlois’ BrokerCheck report discloses one pending investor complaint. Filed in December 2021, it alleges that as a representative of First Allied Securities, he made unsuitable investment recommendations involving real estate securities. The pending complaint alleges damages of $870,000.

His BrokerCheck report discloses one earlier investor complaint. Filed in 2019, it alleged that as a representative of First Allied Securities, he misrepresented and sold unsuitable investments in real estate investment trusts (REITs) in 2013 and 2014. The complaint reached a settlement of $22,060.11.

In a comment on the disclosure concerning the 2019 complaint, Mr. Langlois wrote that when the claimants moved to a new broker-dealer, they “wanted to liquidate 100% of their non-traded Alternative Investments,” and filed a complaint when they were informed they could not. “With our complete file with many years of documentation, we were prepared to vigorously fight the complaint,” he continued. “Our previous Broker Dealer, based on advice from their Internal Accounting and Legal Teams decided that the cost to defend would far outweigh the settlement, and removed us from any communication with the” claimants, ultimately settling with them.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Joseph Langlois holds 20 years of securities industry experience. Based in San Jose, California, he has been a representative of DFPG Investments since 2015. His past registrations include First Allied Securities (San Diego, California; 2010-2015), MetLife Securities (San Diego, California; 2001-2010), and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (San Diego, California; 2001-2007). His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He holds 33 state licenses. (Information current as of June 6, 2022.)
