Vanessa Ly: Why Did Cetera Advisor Resign from Morgan Stanley?

Newport Beach, California financial advisor Vanessa Ly (CRD# 4664226) recently resigned from her former member firm in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the former Morgan Stanley representative is currently registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Cetera Investment Services and Cetera Wealth Advisers, respectively.

Ms. Ly’s BrokerCheck report discloses her resignation from Morgan Stanley. Filed in April 2026, the disclosure states that she voluntarily resigned in connection with alleged “Concerns relating to representative’s alteration of a client-signed document.”

FINRA Rule 2010 states that FINRA-associated brokers must “observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.” Various forms of unethical conduct, including the improper alteration of documents, constitute violations of FINRA Rule 2010, provided the activities occur “in the conduct of [the member’s] business.” Improper changes to customer information may also violate FINRA Rule 4511, which requires firms to “make and preserve books and records as required under the FINRA rules, the Exchange Act and the applicable Exchange Act rules.” Brokers who cause their firms to maintain inaccurate books and records may be subject to disciplinary action by their firm and/or by regulatory authorities.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Vanessa Ly holds 14 years of securities industry experience.
