Lake Wales, Florida financial advisor James Nelson (CRD# 1931451) allegedly recommended unsuitable investments, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker with Realta Equities and an investment advisor with Realta Investment Advisors.
Mr. Nelson’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in June 2026, it alleges that as a representative of Realta Equities, he recommended unsuitable and illiquid private investments. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.
FINRA registered representatives like Mr. Nelson are beholden to strict industry standards mandating that they recommend only investments that are considered appropriate for their customers’ investment objectives and backgrounds. FINRA Rule 2111 establishes this standard, referred to as the suitability standard. It states specifically that brokers must “have a reasonable basis to believe that a recommended transaction or investment strategy” is suitable for a customer’s profile, which includes their financial situation, income, net worth, risk tolerance, investment goals, and other factors. An investment in a high-risk, illiquid REIT, for example, would likely be unsuitable for a customer whose risk tolerance is low and whose investment goals are conservative. Brokers who recommend their customers invest in unsuitable products may be held liable in the event of losses.
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, James Nelson holds 29 years of securities industry experience. Based in Lake Wales, Florida, he has been registered as a broker with Realta Equities and an investment advisor with Realta Investment Advisors since 2022. His registration history includes Kalos Management, Kalos Capital, Lineweaver Wealth Advisors, and Triad Advisors. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6TO; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 20 state licenses. (Information current as of July 21, 2026.)
