Deborah Key: Wells Fargo Advisor Receives $1.5mm Complaint

Las Vegas, Nevada financial advisor Deborah Key (CRD# 1236421) allegedly recommended an unsuitable investment, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that she is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Wells Fargo.

Ms. Key’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in August 2026, it alleges that as a representative of UBS Financial Services, she unsuitably recommended two deferred variable annuities, acted negligently, and misrepresented the investments. The pending complaint alleges damages of $1.5 million.

For reference, securities industry standards forbid brokers like Ms. Key from misrepresenting material facts regarding the investments and/or strategies they recommend to their clients. FINRA Rule 2020 stipulates specifically that no broker shall “effect any transaction in, or induce the purchase or sale of, any security by means of any manipulative, deceptive or other fraudulent device or contrivance.” A material fact is any information that forms a significant consideration to investors weighing an investment product or strategy—for instance, whether the investment is risky or whether their principal would be protected. Brokers who make misrepresentations of material facts regarding their recommendations may be liable in the event of losses.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Deborah Key holds 40 years of securities industry experience. Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, she has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Wells Fargo Clearing Services since 2018. Her past registrations include UBS Financial Services, UBS International, UBS Painewebber, Merrill Lynch, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Smith Barney, Harris Upham, Cantor Fitzgerald, Drexel Burnham Lambert, and Baraban Securities. Her credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the National Commodity Futures Examination, or Series 3; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. She holds 12 state licenses. (Information current as of September 7, 2026.)
