Chad McQuade: Northwestern Mutual Advisor Faces $400K Complaint

A recent investor complaint against Oak Brook, Illinois financial advisor Chad McQuade (CRD# 5436281) alleges that his advice resulted in six-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services.

Mr. McQuade’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in August 2026, it alleges that as a representative of Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, he recommended unsuitable investments in “outside-third party real estate” products, and that he failed to disclose material facts and risks related to the recommendations. The pending complaint alleges damages of $400,000.

In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. McQuade defended himself against the allegations. “In 2018, several years before he opened any investment accounts with me, claimant said he wanted to invest in real estate,” he wrote. “I introduced him to a real estate professional that I knew. I did not recommend any of claimant’s private real estate securities investments, and I did not vet them for claimant because I was in no way recommending them.”

Investors should be aware of the SEC’s “Regulation Best Interest,” a standard of conduct requiring advisors like Mr. McQuade to recommend only investments and investment strategies that are in their clients’ best interests. Both broker-dealer firms and their registered representatives are beholden to a “Care Obligation, per the regulation,” under which they must “have a reasonable basis to believe that each recommendation or series of recommendations made is in the best interest of the particular retail customer and does not place their financial or other interests ahead of the interest of the retail customer.” Regulation BI states additionally that brokers and advisors must inform their customers of any potential conflicts of interest that might consciously or unconsciously result in them providing “advice that is not disinterested,” as FINRA explains. More information about these rules is available via FINRA.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Chad McQuade holds 18 years of securities industry experience. Based in Oak Brook, Illinois, he has been registered as a broker with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services since 2007. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Principal Examination, or Series 26; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 33 state licenses. (Information current as of October 26, 2026.)
