Greenville, South Carolina financial advisor CJ Newton (CRD# 6195382) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his conduct resulted in damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with UBS Financial Services.

Investors should be aware of FINRA Rule 2111, which requires brokers to perform “reasonable diligence” on the investments they recommend to their clients in order to ensure that the products are suitable. Suitability refers to an investment’s appropriateness for the customer’s background and objectives: for instance, a risky and illiquid investment would likely be considered unsuitable for a client with moderate risk tolerance and a goal focused on preservation and growth. Brokers must ensure that the recommendation is at least suitable for some investors; that it is suitable for the customer to whom they are recommending it; and that, if they are recommending a series of transactions to a customer over whose account they have actual or de facto control, these transactions are suitable when taken together and when viewed in isolation. Brokers who recommend unsuitable investments or strategies may be held liable for damages in the event of losses.
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, CJ Newton holds 12 years of securities industry experience. Based in Greenville, South Carolina, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with UBS Financial Services since 2014. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66. He holds 35 state licenses. (Information current as of August 13, 2026.)
