Doug McCauley: FINRA Bars Ex-Madison Ave Advisor

Former Arlington, Virginia financial advisor Doug McCauley (CRD# 1257811) was recently sanctioned and barred in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the former Madison Avenue Securities broker is currently not registered with any state or firm.

A Letter of Acceptance, Waiver, and Consent (No. 2025085574001) describes FINRA’s disciplinary action against Mr. McCauley. Filed in December 2025, it states that he refused to cooperate with a FINRA investigation into his outside business activities. As part of that investigation, FINRA sent him a request to produce information and documents including bank and other financial records. After submitting incomplete responses, FINRA alleges, Mr. McCauley ultimately informed the regulator that he would not provide the requested materials and information. As a result, FINRA found he violated its rules, barring him from associating with any member firm in all capacities.

As both the Letter and his BrokerCheck report note, this was not the first regulatory enforcement action against Mr. McCauley. In 2008, for example, the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities & Healthcare Administration sanctioned him in connection with allegations that he participated in “advisory activities while unregistered in the state of Vermont.” Later, in 2013, he “the Florida Department of Financial Services denied McCauley’s nonresident applications for licensure to act as an insurance agent due to the Vermont regulatory action.” Finally, in 2014, he was fined a sum of $1,500 by the New York State Department of Financial Services in connection with allegations that he failed to disclose the Florida regulatory action.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Doug McCauley holds 28 years of securities industry experience. Most recently registered in Arlington, Virginia, he was last registered as a broker with Madison Avenue Securities from 2009 until 2024. He was previously registered with A. CH. Securities (1999-2000) and Jefferson Pilot Securities Corporation (1986-1998). His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6. He is not currently licensed with any state or firm, having been barred by FINRA. (Information current as of December 11, 2025.)
