GPB Capital Complaint Against Doffin Investments’ Dmitry Tikhonov

Dmitry Tikhonov (CRD# 5451809), a financial advisor in Torrance, California, has received an investor complaint alleging he made unsuitable alternative investment recommendations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and investment advisor with Doffin Investments, which offers securities through Madison Avenue Securities.

Mr. Tikhonov’s BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. The most recent, filed in March 2022, alleges that as a representative of Madison Avenue Securities, he recommended unsuitable alternative investments. The pending complaint, which concerns investments in GPB Automotive, alleges unspecified damages; the claim notes that the clients invested $187,000 in the investments in question.

A “Broker Comment” on the March 2022 complaint’s disclosure states in part, “The firm maintains that this claim is without merit, as the clients did not suffer any net losses over a ten-plus-year relationship.” According to the statement, the customers “reviewed all alternative investment materials for suitability and understood they were illiquid investments and had the potential of loss just like any other investment,” and “This was never an issue at the time of sale.”

A second investor complaint, filed in 2013, alleged breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, fraud, and breach of contract in connection with the sale of alternative investments, including investments in Behringer Harvard REIT I and Adageo Petrobonds. In 2015the complaint, in which Mr. Tikhonov was not named as a respondent, reached a settlement of $61,425.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Dmitry Tikhonov holds 14 years of securities industry experience. Based in Torrance, California, he is a representative of Doffin Investments, which offers securities through Madison Avenue Securities. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66; and the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE.
