Greg Wilson: $1mm Oil & Gas Complaint Against Ortiz Advisor

Whittier, California financial advisor Greg Wilson (CRD# 6849983) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his advice resulted in seven-figure damages. Securities and Exchange Commission records show that he is currently registered as an investment advisor with Ortiz World Wealth, having previously been registered with David Ortiz Advisors.

Mr. Wilson’s Investment Adviser Public Disclosure form discloses one investor complaint against him. Filed in May 2024, it alleges that as a representative of David Ortiz Advisors, he failed to perform adequate due diligence and recommended unsuitable oil and gas investments. The pending complaint alleges damages of $1,185,000. “This activity occurred when respondent worked at a prior firm and was not the primary adviser,” reads a statement included with the disclosure.

Ortiz World Wealth’s website includes a profile of Mr. Wilson that describes his background and experience. “Greg Wilson holds a notable professional background with 17 years in the aerospace purchasing and management industry, and 10 years in pharmaceutical product distribution,” it reads. “Five years ago, Greg pursued a career in financial services and earned a certification in series 65 to specialize in retirement income planning.”

Elsewhere, the firm describes its own approach to working with clients. “While many financial advisors pull from the same pre-canned model portfolios for every client, Ortiz World Wealth creates custom investment portfolios that may feature an active tilt or exposure to Alternative investments,” it states. “We base your investment selection on your portfolio’s need for growth, yield, and income. We determine your tolerance for volatility, needs in retirement, and timeframes for milestones and goals.”

According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Greg Wilson holds five years of securities  industry experience. Based in Whittier, California, he has been registered as an investment advisor with Ortiz World Wealth since 2021. He was previously registered with David Ortiz Advisors from 2019 until 2021. His credentials include the passage of the Series 65, or Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination. He is licensed in California. (Information current as of June 16, 2024.)
