James Bowman: FINRA Bars Former Edward Jones Advisor

Former Columbia, Missouri financial advisor James Bowman (CRD# 4469446) was recently sanctioned by regulators and fired by his former member firm in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he was previously registered as a broker with Edward Jones.

Mr. Bowman’s BrokerCheck report discloses FINRA’s disciplinary action against him. Filed in March 2025, it describes allegations that he “refused to appear for on-the-record testimony requested by FINRA in connection with its investigation into whether he personally reimbursed his customers for losses and fees in their accounts.” As a result, FINRA indefinitely barred him from registering with any member firm in all capacities.

A second disclosure on his BrokerCheck report concerns his termination from Edward Jones. Filed in 2024, it states that the firm fired him in connection with allegations that he “personally reimbursed clients for losses and fees in Firm related accounts.”

Generally speaking, brokers like Mr. Bowman are prohibited from entering into arrangements in which they share in client profits or losses. Such conduct is specifically forbidden by FINRA Rule 2150, which states that “No member or person associated with a member shall guarantee a customer against loss in connection with any securities transaction or in any securities account of such customer.” There are certain instances outlined by that rule in which brokers may share in losses, though these generally require the broker to obtain prior written authorization from their employer. A broker who shares in client losses without receiving their firm’s approval may be found to have violated Rule 2150.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, James Bowman holds 22 years of securities industry experience. Most recently based in Columbia, Missouri, he was registered as a broker with Edward Jones from 2002 until 2024. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; and the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7. (Information current as of June 25, 2025.)
