James Lang: FINRA Recommends Action Against Lang Wealth Advisor

Westlake Village, California financial advisor James Lang (CRD# 2959057) allegedly improperly used an investor’s funds, according to a regulatory investigation into his conduct. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Group, doing business as Lang Wealth Management.

Mr. Lang’s BrokerCheck report discloses FINRA’s investigation into his conduct. Filed in May 2025, the disclosure states that FINRA made a preliminary determination to recommend disciplinary action against him. The action would allege that he improperly used a customer’s funds “by commingling customer funds with his own personal funds.” It would also allege that he engaged in outside business activities without notifying his firm or receiving its approval. The recommended action has not yet been taken by FINRA.

A second disclosure on his BrokerCheck report concerns his resignation from LPL Financial. Filed in 2020, it states that he voluntarily resigned from the firm in connection with allegations that he failed to timely complete the firm’s request “request to relinquish trustee role over customer trust accounts.”

Lang Wealth Management’s website includes a page describing the firm’s services. “As financial professionals, we are committed to helping people just like you create solutions for their retirement assets,” it explains. “Once we understand your risk tolerance, time horizon and goals, we’ll work diligently to develop a program that carefully balances investment strategies with preserving principal.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, James Lang holds 27 years of securities industry experience. Based in Westlake Village, California, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Group since 2020, doing business as Lang Wealth Management. His past registrations include Ball & Company, LPL Financial, AXA Advisors, the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, and New England Securities. His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying exams: the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; and the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24. He holds 15 state licenses. (Information current as of June 2, 2025.)
