Atlas Oil & Gas Complaint Against JP Morand’s Jeff Morand

Englewood, Colorado financial advisor Jeff Morand (CRD# 728191) recently received an investor complaint alleging fraud connected to an investment in Atlas Oil and Gas Growth Partners. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Group, doing business as JP Morand & Company.

Mr. Morand’s BrokerCheck report discloses one recent investor complaint. Filed in April 2022, it alleges breach of fiduciary duty, unsuitable investment advice, common law fraud, negligence, violation of FINRA rules, breach of contract, and fraudulent misrepresentations and omissions with regard to an investment in Atlas Oil and Gas Growth Partners. The pending complaint, which concerns his conduct while a representative of United Planners’ Financial Services, alleges unspecified damages.

In a statement on the pending complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Morand denies the allegations, stating in part: “I categorically disagree that I misrepresented Atlas Oil and Gas Growth Partners in any way.” He asserts further that he “did not attempt in any way to defraud or neglect or misrepresent any of the material facts of the investment,” and that he “presented all the appropriate fact sheets from the Atlas and information that was provided” by his firm at the time, United Planners’. He concludes by stating that he and the customer “talked on more than one occasion as to the volatility of the oil & gas market, the uncertainty of drilling, and production of the various oil wells that were included in the portfolio.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Jeff Morand holds 41 years of securities industry experience. Based in Englewood, Colorado, he is a broker and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Group since 2019, doing business as JP Morand & Company. His past registrations include Rice Brown Financial Services, United Planners’ Financial Services of America, Heartland Financial Consultants, Securities America, ING Financial Partners, Pruco Securities Corporation, the Prudential Insurance Company of America, LCM Financial Services, Integrated Resources Equity Corporation, and Paine Webber Jackson & Curtis. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He is licensed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. (Information current as of October 18, 2022.)
