CBCLife’s Joyce Liang Receives GWG L Bond Complaint

Daly City, California financial advisor Joyce Liang (CRD# 6860076) is involved in an investor complaint involving an investment in GWG L bonds. Records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority show that she is a broker with NI Advisors and a representative of CBCLife Financial Services.

Ms. Liang’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in September 2022, it alleges that as a representative of NI Advisors, she committed fraud, acted negligently, and recommended an unsuitable investment in a GWG L bond. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year on GWG Holdings, a Dallas asset manager known for L bonds, investment products that “pooled money from bond investors to purchase life-insurance policies on the secondary market.” The firm reportedly raised approximately $1.6 billion from a customer base consisting largely of retail investors, then later later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The DI Wire reported that GWG Holdings disclosed in bankruptcy filings that the Securities and Exchange Commission was looking into its L bond sales, with a specific focus on “how bonds were sold by brokers.” More information on GWG L bonds, and whether they may have been unsuitable investments, is available here.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Joyce Liang holds five years of securities industry experience. Based in Daly City, California, she has been a broker with NI Advisors since 2017 and a representative of CBCLife Financial Services since 2007. Her past registrations include Her credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66.
