Kent Herring: $750K Complaint Against Ex-Voya Advisor

Gulf Breeze, Florida financial advisor Kent Herring (CRD# 5417262) is involved in an investor complaint alleging damages of more than $700,000. Records provided by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority show that he is a broker and an investment advisor with Cambridge Investment Research, having previously been registered with Voya Financial Advisors.

Mr. Herring’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in February 2023, it alleges that as a representative of Voya Financial Advisors, he “recommended an unsuitable strategy which involved high-commission, risky and complex products.” The pending complaint alleges damages of $750,000.

For reference, FINRA Rule 211 requires brokers like Mr. Herring to recommend investments that are appropriate for a customer’s unique investment profile, a set of information that includes their investment history, objectives, net worth, income, risk tolerance, and other factors. Brokers who recommend unsuitable investments in violation of Rule 2111 may be held liable for damages and/or subject to disciplinary action by FINRA or other securities regulators.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Kent Herring holds 15 years of securities industry experience. Based in Gulf Breeze, Florida, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with Cambridge Investment Research since 2015 and 2018, respectively. He was previously registered with Voya Financial Advisors in Gulf Breeze from 2007 until 2014. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE. He is licensed in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. (Information current as of March 26, 2023.)
