Matt Hiss: Legacy Financial Advisor Faces $125K GWG Complaint

Atwood, Kansas financial advisor Matt Hiss (CRD# 5386963) allegedly misrepresented an investment in GWG L bonds, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker with IFP Securities and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Partners, doing business as Legacy Financial Solutions.

Mr. Hiss’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in April 2024, it alleges that as a representative of IFP Securities, he recommended an unsuitable investment in GWG L bonds and “falsely represented” the product as safe for the customer. The pending complaint alleges damages of $125,941.71.

Legacy Financial Solutions’ website includes a profile of Mr. Hiss that describes his background and approach. “Compassion, communication, and attention to detail are what sets Matt apart for his clients,” it states. “He believes that no matter a person’s financial situation, it is his job to build an effective financial plan and implement that plan thoroughly through successful communication that suits your busy lifestyle. He believes each person’s financial situation is individually unique and so should the client/advisor relationship.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Matt Hiss holds 15 years of securities industry experience. Based in Atwood, Kansas, he has been registered as a broker with IFP Securities since 2019 and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Partners since 2012, doing business as Legacy Financial Solutions. His past registrations include LPL Financial (Atwood, Kansas; 2012-2019) and Sterne Agee Financial Services (Great Bend, Kansas; 2008-2012). His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66. He is licensed in Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia. (Information current as of June 8, 2024.)
