Motaz Ashri: Why Was Oppenheimer Advisor Fired by Morgan Stanley?

Coral Gables, Florida financial advisor Motaz Ashri (CRD# 8018725) was recently fired from his former employer in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the former Morgan Stanley representative is currently registered as a broker with Oppenheimer & Company.

Mr. Ashri’s BrokerCheck report discloses his termination from Morgan Stanley. Filed in March 2026, the disclosure states that the firm fired him in connection with allegations “details of the representative’s reporting of an outside private securities investment and emailing a client of the Firm information about this securities investment opportunity and an outside real estate investment opportunity.”

Investors should be aware that FINRA Rule 3280 prohibits FINRA registered representatives from engaging in private securities transactions except under certain conditions. The rule defines such transactions as “any securities transaction outside the regular course or scope of an associated person’s employment with a member.” Also known as selling away, a broker’s participation in private securities transactions is permissible in some cases, such as transactions with immediate family members for which no FINRA associated person receives selling compensation, provided the representative provides written notice to their member firm. Private securities transactions are generally also subject to an individual firm’s policies and procedures. Representatives who improperly engage in private securities transactions may subject to disciplinary actions by their member firms and/or securities regulators like FINRA.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Motaz Ashri holds one year of securities industry experience. Based in Coral Gables, Florida, he has been registered as a broker with Oppenheimer & Company since 2026. He was previously registered with Morgan Stanley in Miami, Florida from 2026 until 2026. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66; and the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7TO. He is licensed in California, Georgia, and Ohio. (Information current as of June 14, 2026.)
