Randolph Hinton: $245K Complaint Against Ex-RH Wealth Advisor

Former Ventura, California financial advisor Randolph Hinton (CRD# 1539210) recommended an unsuitable alternative investment, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he was previously registered as a broker with United Planners’ Financial Services, doing business as RH Wealth Advisors.

Mr. Hinton’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in September 2024, it alleges that as a representative of United Planners’ Financial Services of America, he breached his fiduciary duty, breached contract, and recommended an unsuitable alternative investment. The pending complaint alleges damages of $245,000.

A version of RH Wealth Advisors’ website archived in 2019 includes a profile of Mr. Hinton that describes his background and experience. “He has been working with individual and institutional clients since 1985,” it explains. “His areas of expertise include: Asset Management and Preservation, Retirement Planning, Life Insurance and Annuities, Income Planning, Business Continuation Planning, and advising business owners in a wide array of financial matters.”

Elsewhere on that archived website, the firm described its philosophy. “It is a basic law of economics and financial management that every form of risk control or risk reduction costs money,” this page explained. “Whether you use bonds, cash or are simply buying insurance on your home, each of these risk reducers cost money or opportunity. Opportunity is just another way of saying, “money you could have earned”, or spent elsewhere, in the context of financial management. We strongly believe in combining opportunity, by participation in the markets, with some level of mitigation or protection.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Randolph Hinton holds 36 years of securities industry experience. Most recently based in Ventura, California, he was registered with United Planners’ Financial Services from 1995 until 2023. His past registrations include Washington Investment Corporation, First Potomac Investment Services, Johnston Lemon & Company, and Anderson Strudwick. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the National Commodity Futures Examination, or Series 3; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He is not currently registered as a broker or an investment advisor. (Information current as of April 5, 2025.)
