Newberg, Oregon financial advisor Robert Smith (CRD# 1412333) has received multiple investor complaints alleging that his conduct resulted in damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker with Emerson Equity, doing business as Peregrine Private Capital.
Mr. Smith’s BrokerCheck report discloses multiple investor complaints. The most recent, filed in September 2025, alleges that as a representative of Emerson Equity, he committed fraud, breached his fiduciary duty, and acted negligently. The pending complaint alleges damages between $1 million and $2.3 million.
An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2022, alleged that as a representative of Concorde Investment Services, he recommended unsuitable investments. In 2024 the complaint reached a settlement of $117,747.88.
A third investor complaint, filed in 2022, alleged that as a representative of Pacific West Securities and Concorde Investment Services, he recommended unsuitable investments, failed in his supervisory responsibilities, and committed fraud. In 2023 the complaint reached a settlement of $50,000.
A fourth investor complaint, filed in 2021, alleged that as a representative of Concorde Investment Services, he acted negligently, made untrue and misleading statements, recommended unsuitable investments in GPB Capital, and failed in his supervisory responsibilities. In 2023 the complaint reached a settlement of $300,000.
In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Smith “vehemently” denied the allegations. “These customers were longtime friends (25 years) and investors, with whom I have worked extensively, and for whom I have achieved significant gains in other areas of their portfolio,” he wrote. “The product recommended was an approved based on due diligence performed by my then employing broker-dealer, and it was widely sold throughout the industry. I intend to vigorously defend myself against these allegations.”
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Robert Smith holds 38 years of securities industry experience. Based in Newberg, Oregon, he has been registered as a broker with Emerson Equity since 2020, doing business as Peregrine Private Capital. His past registrations include Concorde Investment Services, Pacific West Securities, Brookstreet Securities Corporation, Toluca Pacific Securities, Allmerica Investments, AG Edwards & Sons, and Merrill Lynch. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the National Commodity Futures Examination, or Series 3; and the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7.
