Sahand Elmtalab: MML Advisor Receives $4.3mm Complaint

Minneapolis, Minnesota financial advisor Sahand Elmtalab (CRD# 5484654) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his conduct resulted in seven-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with MML Investors Services.

Mr. Elmtalab’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in June 2026, it alleges that as a representative of MML Investors Services, he failed to inquire into red flags surrounding a transaction in which “a premium financing referral was made to a third party, who accepted $500,000 from the complainants to obtain a line of credit for them to make interest payments on whole life insurance policies,” and who failed to return the funds. The pending complaint alleges damages of at least $4.3 million.

Various industry rules protect investors against unsuitable investments and other forms of misconduct. FINRA Rule 2111, for instance, stipulates that brokers and firms must “have a reasonable basis to believe that a recommended transaction or investment strategy involving a security or securities is suitable for the customer, based on the information obtained through the reasonable diligence of the member or associated person to ascertain the customer’s investment profile.” Brokers who lack that reasonable basis, or who recommend transactions that aren’t suitable for their customers, are considered to have violated Rule 2111. FINRA Rule 2010, meanwhile, requires FINRA-associated persons to “observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.” Many types of unethical conduct, including the mismanagement of accounts or the failure to follow a customer’s instructions, may be found to constitute violations of FINRA Rule 2010, provided the alleged activities occur “in the conduct of [the member’s] business.” Brokers who violate these rules may be held liable for damages and/or subject to disciplinary action by securities regulatory authorities.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Sahand Elmtalab holds 18 years of securities industry experience. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with MML Investors Services since 2013. He was previously registered with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services in Edina, Minnesota. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 50 state licenses. (Information current as of July 21, 2026.)
