Denver Advisor Scot Barringer: GWG Holdings Complaints

Investor complaints against American Trust Financial Services financial advisor Scot Barringer (CRD# 1385168) allege that he sold unsuitable GWG L bond investments. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that the Lisle, Illinois broker is also registered as an investment advisor with Chicago Capital Management Advisors in Denver, Colorado.

Mr. Barringer’s BrokerCheck report discloses four investor complaints. The most recent, filed in September 2022, alleges he misrepresented and sold unsuitable investments in GWG L bonds. while he was at WestPark Capital The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in June 2022, alleges he misrepresented material facts relating to an unsuitable investment in GWG Holdings, which later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The pending complaint alleges damages of $60,000.

A third investor complaint, filed in April 2022, alleges he recommended an investment in GWG L bonds that was unsuitable for an “unsophisticated small investor.” The pending complaint alleges damages of $60,000.

A fourth investor complaint, filed in 2013, alleged that as a representative of Newport Coast Securities, he recommended an unsuitable private placement investment. In 2013 the complaint reached a settlement of $70,000.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Scot Barringer holds 37 years of securities industry experience. Based in Lisle, Illinois, he has been a broker with American Trust Financial Services and an investment advisor with Chicago Capital Management Advisors since 2020. His past registrations include WestPark Capital (Denver, Colorado), Applied Wealth Management (Greenwood Village, Colorado), Newport Coast Securities (Denver, Colorado), and Securities America (2007-2009). His credentials include the passage of nine securities industry qualifying exams: the Financial and Operations Principal Examination, or Series 27; the Registered Options Principal Examination, or Series 4; the Municipal Securities Principal Examination, or Series 53; the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the National Commodity Futures Examination, or Series 3; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65.
