Stephen Wiedemann: $400K Complaint Against Wells Fargo Advisor

Newport Beach, California financial advisor Stephen Wiedemann (CRD# 2212349) allegedly made unsuitable investment recommendations, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Wells Fargo.

Mr. Wiedemann’s BrokerCheck report discloses multiple investor complaints. The most recent, filed in January 2026, alleges that as a representative of Wells Fargo Clearing Services, he recommended unsuitable municipal bond investments. The pending complaint alleges damages of at least $400,000.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2013, alleged that as an Ameriprise Financial Services representative, he made “poor investment recommendations” that resulted in losses. The complaint alleged damages of $148,065 and was withdrawn.

A third investor complaint, filed in 1994, alleged that as a representative of Olde Discount Corporation, he recommended unsuitable investments and margin trades. In 1995 the complaint reached a settlement of $19,250.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Stephen Wiedemann holds 33 years of securities industry experience. Based in Newport Beach, California, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Wells Fargo since 2018. His registration history includes Ameriprise Financial Services (Irvine, California; 2009-2018), Ameriprise Advisor Services (Irvine, California; 1992-2009), and RSM McGladrey (Irvine, California; 2003). His credentials include the passage of seven securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; the General Securities Sales Supervisor Exam – Options Module & General Module, or Series 8; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; and the Futures Managed Funds Examination, or Series 31.
