Tommy Bolton: $269K Annuity Complaint Against Stifel Advisor

Fayetteville, North Carolina financial advisor Tommy Bolton (CRD# 1398115) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his advice resulted in damages exceeding $200,000. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Stifel Nicolaus & Company.

Mr. Bolton’s BrokerCheck report discloses several investor complaints. The most recent, filed in October 2024, it alleges that as a representative of Stifel Nicolaus & Company, he recommended unsuitable variable annuities and “misrepresented the ability to turn on income streams,” resulting in surrender charges. The pending complaint alleges damages of $269,222.73.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2003, alleged that as a representative of Salomon Smith Barney, he engaged in manipulation, executed unauthorized trades, breached his fiduciary duty, misrepresented material facts, failed to disclose material facts, committed fraud, and acted negligently. In 2005 the complaint reached a settlement of $38,975.

His past registrations include Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets, Lehman Brothers, and EF Hutton & Company. His credentials include the passage of seven securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Sales Supervisor Examination (Options Module & General Module), or Series 8; the General Securities Sales Supervisor – General Module Examination, or Series 10; the General Securities Sales Supervisor – Options Module Examination, or Series 9; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65.
