Scott Kemps: Great Point Capital Rep Has GPB Funds Complaint

A pending investor complaint against Melbourne, Florida and Chicago, Illinois broker and investment adviser Scott Kemps (CRD# 1849069) alleges he recommended an unsuitable investment in GPB Funds. According to Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) records, Kemps is currently registered with Great Point Capital LLC.

Scott Kemp’s BrokerCheck report lists a total of two pending customer complaints and one settled customer complaint against him. He was also sanctioned by the Florida Office of Financial Regulation in 2014 over allegations he “conducted investment advisory business from offices within this state without the benefit of lawful registration,” for which he was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000.

One pending customer complaint, filed in March 2021, alleges that as a representative of Great Point Capital, Scott Kemps failed to conduct due diligence, acted negligently, breached his fiduciary duty to act in the customer’s best interests, recommended unsuitable investments, and breached contract with regards to the sale of GPB Funds. The complaint notes that his firm was named in the complaint and he was not named, but was “said to make unsuitable recommendations as part” of the claim. The pending complaint alleges damages of $600,000.

A complaint filed in February 2021 alleges that as a representative of Great Point Capital, Scott Kemps recommended three unsuitable direct participation programs between 2015 and 2020; the pending complaint alleges damages of $300,000.

A complaint filed in 1999 alleged that as a representative of Securities Service Network, Scott Kemps recommended unsuitable options products; the complaint reached a settlement of $20,000.

Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) records show that Scott Kemps holds 32 years of experience in the securities industry and has been registered with Great Point Capital in Melbourne, Florida and Chicago, Illinois since 2014, and with Blueskye Investment Advisers in Orlando, Florida since 2014. His prior registrations include Ariston Wealth Management in New York, New York; International Assets Advisory in Orlando, Florida; Ariston Wealth Management in Satellite Beach, Florida; Meyers Associates in Melbourne, Florida; Anderson & Strudwick in Indialantic, Florida; Jesup & Lamont Securities in Indialantic, Florida; Jesup & Lamont Securities in New York, New York; Empire Investment Advisors in Satellite Beach, Florida; Centennial Capital Management in Atlanta, Georgia; Summit Brokerage Services in Boca Raton, Florida; Securities Service Network in Knoxville, Tennessee; and Anchor National Financial Services.
