Eric Coombs: Nationwide Advisor Resigned from Huntington

Columbus, Ohio financial advisor Eric Coombs (CRD# 2743447) recently resigned from The Huntington Investment Company in connection with alleged rule violations. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is currently registered as a broker with Nationwide Investment Services Corporation.

Mr. Coombs’ BrokerCheck report discloses his resignation from The Huntington Investment Company. Filed in December 2023, it states that he voluntarily left the firm in connection with an internal review into “sales practice concerns involving suitability of recommendations, RegBI/DOL fiduciary role obligations, and other firm written supervisory procedures.” The disclosure provides no additional information regarding the underlying concerns.

Rule 15l-1(a)(1) of the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, also known as the SEC’s Regulation Best Interest, stipulates that brokers may only recommend investments and strategies in the best interests of their clients. Both firms and registered representatives must “act in the best interest of the retail customer at the time the recommendation is made, without placing the financial or other interest of the broker, dealer, or natural person who is an associated person of a broker or dealer making the recommendation ahead of the interest of the retail customer,” the regulation states. Brokers who make unsuitable investment recommendations may be found liable for damages in the event of losses.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Eric Coombs holds 27 years of securities industry experience. Based in Columbus, Ohio, he has been a broker with Nationwide Investment Services Corporation since January 2024. His past registrations include The Huntington Investment Company (Columbus, Ohio; 2022-2024), Nationwide Securities (Columbus, Ohio; 2019-2021), and Nationwide Investment Services Corporation (Columbus, Ohio; 1996-2019). He is licensed in California, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. (Information current as of January 30, 2024.)
