Kyle McLaughlin: Ex-Morgan Stanley Advisor Lands Suitability Complaint

Cincinnati, Ohio financial advisor Kyle McLaughlin (CRD# 2614967) allegedly made an unsuitable investment recommendation, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with RBC Capital Markets.

Mr. McLaughlin’s BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. The most recent, filed in September 2025, alleges that as a representative of Morgan Stanley, he made an unsuitable recommendation to open a liquidity access line. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2011, alleged that as a representative of NMIS, he withdrew $170,000 from a customer’s investment accounts “without her knowledge or consent and invested the funds in a risky startup venture.” In 2012 the complaint reached a settlement of $75,000.

In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. McLaughlin defended himself against the allegations. ”Client is my now estranged spouse,” he wrote. “Client was fully aware and supportive of the investment… At no time was anything done without her knowledge or consent. She was an active and willing participant until the time that she decided that she wanted to be divorced… The claims are disingenuous and are related to our divorce proceedings, not this investment.”

RBC Capital Market’s website include a profile of Mr. McLaughlin that describes him as a Managing Director in the Paradigm Group, a practice within the firm. According to the profile, his focus is on working with “equity-compensated individuals and closely held business owners,” providing advice regarding asset management and other concerns. He also “manages funds for individuals and corporations” throughout the country, it states.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Kyle McLaughlin holds 30 years of securities industry experience. Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with RBC Capital Markets since 2024. His registration history includes Morgan Stanley, Raymond James & Associates, Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, Robert W. Baird & Company, and PNC Brokerage Corporation. His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying exams: the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Sales Supervisor – General Module Examination, or Series 10; and the General Securities Sales Supervisor – Options Module Examination, or Series 9. He holds 47 state licenses. (Information current as of September 20, 2025.)
