Rick Abbe: LPL Advisor Faced Investor Complaint

A recent, denied investor complaint against San Diego, California financial advisor Rick Abbe (CRD# 1366957) alleges that his advice resulted in damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with LPL Financial, doing business as Abbe Strategic Advisors.

Mr. Abbe’s BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. The most recent, filed in January 2026, alleges that as a representative of LPL Financial, he executed mutual fund trades that were not in the customer’s best interest. The complaint alleged unspecified damages and was denied by the firm.

In a “Broker Comment” included with the complaint, Mr. Abbe defended himself against the allegations and contextualized the claim. “The firm determined that there was no merit to the concerns expressed regarding how the client’s accounts were managed,” he wrote. “The customer never expressed any concerns regarding her investment accounts while she was alive, and all transactions were made in accordance with the client’s investment objectives and prior instructions. The complainant is the customer’s executor, and the concerns arose from administrative and service-related delays associated with the transfer of assets following the client’s passing, and not from any actions, recommendations, or decisions made by the advisor.”

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 1998, alleged that as a representative of Pruco Securities, he misrepresented annuities as tax-deferred when in fact they were not tax-deferred. In 2004 the complaint reached a settlement of $52,453.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Rick Abbe holds 40 years of securities industry experience. Based in San Diego, California, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with LPL Financial since 2021, doing business as Abbe Strategic Advisors.Woodbury Financial Services, Prudential Financial Planning Services, and Pruco Securities. His registration history includes six securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Principal Examination, or Series 26. He is licensed in Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas. (Information current as of March 1, 2026.)
