Michael Wagner: Morgan Stanley Advisor Lands $2mm Complaint

Atlanta, Georgia financial advisor Michael Wagner (CRD# 4465334) recently received an investor complaint alleging that his advice resulted in seven-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley.

Mr. Wagner’s BrokerCheck report discloses multiple investor complaints. The most recent, filed in February 2026, alleges that as a representative of Morgan Stanley, he implemented an unsuitable options trading strategy. The pending complaint alleges damages of $2 million.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2022, similarly alleged that as a Morgan Stanley representative, he recommended an unsuitable options trading strategy. In 2023 the complaint reached a settlement of $4.1 million.

In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Wagner defended himself against the allegations and contended that the investments were suitable. “Mr. Wagner and Morgan Stanley contend that the market conditions associated with the pandemic, including the volatility and the rapid appreciation of the underlying stock’s position from 2020-2021 adversely affected the performance of Claimant’s options,” he wrote. “They further contend that Claimant was appropriately advised of the risks associated with the options strategy and chose to continue the strategy despite its losses. Morgan Stanley settled the claim to avoid the costs and uncertainty of litigation. Mr. Wagner was not asked to contribute to the settlement.”

A third investor complaint, filed in 2020, alleged that as a Morgan Stanley representative, he misrepresented an options strategy. The complaint reached a settlement of $1.5 million.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Michael Wagner holds 24 years of securities industry experience. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley. He was previously registered with Merrill Lynch from 2001 until 2012. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66; and the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7. He holds 24 state licenses. (Information current as of April 19, 2026.)
