Gregory Erekson: Edward Jones Advisor Faced $2.4mm Complaint

A recent, denied investor complaint against St. Louis, Missouri financial advisor Gregory Erekson (CRD# 5168632) alleged that his advice resulted in seven-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Edward Jones.

Mr. Erekson’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in April 2026, it alleged that as a representative of Edward Jones, he recommended unsuitable transactions that resulted in “substantial federal and state tax liabilities.” The customer further alleged that he failed to adequately disclose the tax implications and may have conducted unauthorized trades. The complaint alleged damages of $2.4 million and was denied by the firm

FINRA rules stipulate that brokers like Mr. Erekson can only recommend investments and strategies that are suitable for a given customer. Under FINRA Rule 2111, a broker must “have a reasonable basis to believe that a recommended transaction or investment strategy” is appropriate for the customer’s objectives, a basis reached through reasonable diligence into the customer’s investment profile. Regulation Best Interest imposes a related duty to act in a retail customer’s best interest. FINRA Rule 3260, meanwhile, prohibits brokers from exercising discretion in a customer’s account without prior written authorization. Finally, FINRA Rule 2010 requires brokers to “observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.” Brokers who recommend unsuitable investments may be held liable in the event of losses.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Gregory Erekson holds 19 years of securities industry experience. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, he has been registered as a broker with Edward Jones since 2006 and as an investment advisor with the firm since 2019. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He also holds the Certified Financial Planner designation. He holds 37 state licenses. (Information current as of July 25, 2026.)
