Trevor Flota: Northwestern Advisor Lands Suitability Complaint

A recent investor complaint against Clayton, Missouri financial advisor Trevor Flota (CRD# 6468726) alleges that he made misrepresentations and unauthorized transactions. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services.

Mr. Flota’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in July 2026, it alleges that as a representative of Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, he recommended unsuitable life insurance products, failed to explain the costs associated with the products, and completed Roth conversions without the customer’s prior authorization. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.

FINRA rules prohibit brokers like Mr. Flota from making unauthorized trades. FINRA Rule 3260, for example, stipulates that they cannot effect transactions at their own discretion unless they have first received authorization from the customer and their firm’s approval of the account for discretionary trading. FINRA Rule 2020 additionally stipulates that brokers may not “effect any transaction in, or induce the purchase or sale of, any security by means of any manipulative, deceptive or other fraudulent device or contrivance.” Finally, FINRA Rule 2010 requires representatives to “observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.” Advisors who violate these rules may be held liable for damages.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Trevor Flota holds 10 years of securities industry experience. Based in Clayton, Missouri, he has been registered as a broker with Northwestern Mutual Investment Services since 2015. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 43 state licenses. (Information current as of August 30, 2026.)
