A recent investor complaint against Dallas, Texas financial advisor Darrell Delphen (CRD# 1603277) alleges that he recommended unsuitable investments. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Group, doing business as Cornerstone Financial Services.
Mr. Delphen’s BrokerCheck report discloses four investor complaints. The most recent, filed in July 2026, alleges that as a representative of Independent Financial Group, he recommended unsuitable investments in gold and real estate products. The pending complaint alleges damages between $50,000 and $100,000.
In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Delphen defended himself against the allegations, arguing that one of the customer’s investments “has more than doubled” since they made it. “The client approached the representative asking for him to recommend ways she could diversify her portfolio since all she had (and has always had) were CDs,” he wrote. “He was very prudent and detailed in his conversations with her and was incredibly cognizant that her ask was a significant divergence and, as such, he took a number of steps to help ensure she understood and was comfortable.”
An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2024, alleged that as an Independent Financial Group representative, he recommended an unsuitable non-traded real estate investment trust. The complaint reached a settlement of $14,000.
In a statement included with the settled complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Delphen contextualized and defended himself against the allegations, asserting that the claim was settled solely for economic reasons and to avoid the costs of litigation. “Tellingly, there was only one investment cited in the Statement of Claim despite the fact that the customer in question purchased multiple Alternative Investments as part of her portfolio,” he wrote. “The Firm’s investigation did not discover, and claimant did not bring forth, evidence to support the claim. The other investments were profitable; therefore, that is why this investment was being singled out as problematic.”
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Darrell Delphen holds 39 years of securities industry experience. Based in Dallas, Texas, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Independent Financial Group since 2012 and 2018, respectively, doing business as Cornerstone Financial Services. His past registrations include Cambridge Legacy Securities, InterSecurities, Mariner Financial Services, MetLife Securities, Metropolitan Life Insurance, Merrill Lynch, FN Wolf, and Sherwood Capital. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 29 state licenses. (Information current as of August 30, 2026.)
