A recent investor complaint against Coeur d’Alene, Idaho financial advisor Michael Christiansen (CRD# 4071891) alleges that he made an unsuitable investment recommendation. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with LPL Financial, doing business as Christiansen Wealth Management.
Mr. Christiansen’s BrokerCheck report discloses three investor complaints. The most recent, filed in September 2026, alleges that as a representative of LPL Financial, he failed to act in a customer’s best interest when he recommended unsuitable exchange-traded funds. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.
In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Christiansen denied what he described as the meritless allegations. “The investments about which the customer complained were suitable and were recommended based on the customer’s objectives, goals and financial circumstances and were offered only after reviewing all material documentation related to the investments,” he wrote. “At all times, the representative put the customer’s interest first.”
A second investor complaint, filed in 2010, alleged that as a representative of Edward Jones, he made unauthorized mutual fund trades. The complaint reached a settlement of $5,000.
A third investor complaint, filed in 2001, alleged that as a Merrill Lynch representative, he recommended mutual fund investments that “generated multiple fees” and would have performed better if the customer were working with a different advisor. The complaint reached a settlement of $8,000.
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Michael Christiansen holds 26 years of securities industry experience. Based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with LPL Financial since 2015, doing business as Christiansen Wealth Management. His past registrations include Edward Jones and Merrill Lynch. His credentials include the passage of three securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66. He holds 22 state licenses. (Information current as of November 1, 2026.)
