Bob Bassari: Ex-Great Point Advisor Faces GWG Complaint

Former Chicago financial advisor Bob Bassari (CRD# 2695482) recently received an investor complaint alleging he recommended an unsuitable investment in a GWG L bond. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he was previously registered as a broker with Great Point Capital.

Mr. Bassari’s BrokerCheck report discloses one recent investor complaint. Filed in June 2022, it alleges that as a representative of Great Point Capital, he engaged in fraud, breached contract, recommended an unsuitable GWG L bond investment, and breached his fiduciary duty. The pending complaint alleges damages of $75,000.

A second disclosure on Mr. Bassari’s BrokerCheck report describes a 2009 FINRA enforcement action against him. The sanction concerned allegations that he sent sales literature to prospective customers “without prior approval of an appropriate registered principal of his member firm.” The sanction alleged further that the form letter he sent to his customers, about a prior employer, “was not fair and balanced,” contained “unwarranted statements,” and did not offer “a sound basis for evaluating the facts.” In connection with these findings, he was issued a 10-day suspension and a fine of $5,000.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Bob Bassari holds 21 years of securities industry experience. He was registered as a broker with Great Point Capital in Chicago, Illinois from 2016 until 2018 and is not currently registered as a broker. His registration history includes Summit Brokerage Services, JP Turner & Company, Allied Beacon Partners, Workman Securities Corporation, BrokersXpress, Financial Network Investment Corporation, Valic Financial Advisors, Banc One Securities Corporation, Veravest Investments, Dreher & Associates, and Dean Witter Reynolds. His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Principal Examination, or Series 24; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Futures Managed Funds Examination, or Series 31; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. (Information current as of June 19, 2023.)
