Gilbert, Arizona financial advisor Charles Darling (CRD# 7334110) allegedly recommended an unsuitable investment, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley.
Mr. Darling’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in September 2026, it alleges that as a representative of Morgan Stanley, he violated the suitability standard in connection with “the recommendation and monitoring of a Liquidity Access Line involving a concentrated equity position.” The pending complaint alleges damages of $15,000,000.
FINRA rules stipulate that broker-dealers and their representatives, like Mr. Darling, must follow the suitability standard. As FINRA Rule 2111 establishes, this standard holds that brokers may recommend their customers only investments and strategies that are appropriate for the customers’ individual investment profiles, based on reasonable diligence of the investments and the profiles. An investor’s profile includes information including their investment objectives, investment experience, risk tolerance, net worth, income, and more. The suitability standard is not to be confused with the fiduciary standard which investment advisers must follow, requiring that they place the investor’s interests above their own.
For reference, “concentration,” also known as “over-concentration” or “lack of diversification,” is described by FINRA’s investor resources as akin to putting too many eggs in one basket. To avoid the risks of over-concentration, FINRA recommends investors diversify across and within major asset classes, regularly rebalance their portfolios, closely examine the underlying stocks or bonds in the mutual funds and exchange-traded funds in their portfolios, and keep vigilant track of their investments’ liquidity.
According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Charles Darling holds five years of securities industry experience. Based in Gilbert, Arizona, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Morgan Stanley since 2021. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Sales Supervisor – General Module Examination, or Series 10; the General Securities Sales Supervisor – Options Module Examination, or Series 9; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7TO; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66. He holds 55 state licenses. (Information current as of October 26, 2026.)
