Matthew Leisman: $45K Bond Complaint Against Westport Advisor

Kansas City, Missouri financial advisor Matthew Leisman (CRD# 2113061) has received multiple investor complaints alleging that he recommended unsuitable investments. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Moloney Securities, doing business as Westport Advisory Group.

Mr. Leisman’s BrokerCheck report discloses two investor complaints. The most recent, filed in April 2024, alleged that as a representative of Moloney Securities, he acted negligently and recommended unsuitable corporate bond investments. The complaint reached a settlement of $45,000.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 2023, similarly alleged that he acted negligently and recommended unsuitable bond investments while a representative of Moloney Securities. In May 2024 the complaint reached a settlement of $50,000.

In identical statements included with the settled complaints’ disclosures, Mr. Leisman defended himself against the claims. “The broker dealer settled the matter for business purposes without admitting any wrongdoing or liability,” he wrote. “I still refute the allegations of the claims.”

Westport Advisory Group’s website includes a profile of Mr. Leisman, the firm’s founder, describing his background and experience. “He began his professional career with The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network where he served as an Agent & as an Investment Broker with Robert W. Baird & Co.,” it states. “Through 25 years of Investment experience he has developed a diverse knowledge of Insurance, The Capital Markets, & Alternative Investments.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Matthew Leisman holds 26 years of securities industry experience. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with Moloney Securities since 2013 and 2016, respectively, doing business as Westport Advisory Group. His registration history includes Money Concepts Capital, Trinity Capital Management, Cambridge Investment Research, QA3 Financial, Quick & Reilly, Nathan & Lewis, Kirkpatrick Pettis Smith Polian, Northwestern Mutual Investment Services, and Robert W. Baird & Company. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66.
