Mike Thompson: UBS Advisor Receives $1mm Suitability Complaint

Irvine, California financial advisor Mike Thompson (CRD# 1111881) recently received an investor complaint alleging his conduct resulted in seven-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and an investment advisor with UBS Financial Services, whose website shows that he is part of The Thompson Katzaroff Kottmeier Group.

Mr. Thompson’s BrokerCheck report discloses several investor complaints. The most recent, filed in June 2023, alleges that as a representative of UBS Financial Services, he managed the claimant’s accounts in an unsuitable fashion. The pending complaint alleges damages of $1 million.

An earlier investor complaint, filed in 1997, alleged that as a Painewebber representative, he did not adequately disclose the margin interest ramifications associated with a transaction and did not provide a reasonable level of communication. The complaint reached a settlement of $35,000.

Mr. Thompson is a Managing Director, Wealth Management for The Thompson Katzaroff Kottmeier Group at UBS Financial Services, according to the firm’s website. According to the Group’s page, it “provides customized financial planning and wealth management services to clients who desire a superior level of personal service.” Mr. Thompson’s profile notes that he has 40 years of experience and serves as the group’s Lead Portfolio Manager.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Mike Thompson holds 40 years of securities industry experience. Based in Irvine, California, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with UBS Financial Services since 1988. He was previously registered with Shearson Lehman Hutton from 1983 until 1988. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65.
