Tim Clairmont: Cetera Advisor Receives $100K Complaint

A recent investor complaint against Lake Oswego, Oregon financial advisor Tim Clairmont (CRD# 2847591) alleges that his advice resulted in six-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Cetera.

Mr. Clairmont’s BrokerCheck report discloses three investor complaints. The most recent, filed in September 2026, alleges that as a representative of Lion Street Financial, he misrepresented and recommended an unsuitable investment. The pending complaint alleges damages of $100,000.

A second investor complaint, filed in 2026, alleged that as a representative of Woodbury Financial Services, he misrepresented an investment in TriLinc Global Impact Funds in 2016. The complaint alleged damages of at least $5,000 and was denied by the firm.

A third investor complaint, filed in 2004, alleged that as a representative of Woodbury Financial Services, he recommended an inappropriate investment and used high-pressure sales tactics. In 2005 the complaint reached a settlement of $16,783.78.

Various industry rules protect investors against misleading representations. FINRA Rule 2020 provides that no broker shall “effect any transaction in, or induce the purchase or sale of, any security by means of any manipulative, deceptive or other fraudulent device or contrivance, and brokers may not make misrepresentations of material fact about the investments they recommend. Under FINRA Rule 2111, a broker must “have a reasonable basis to believe that a recommended transaction or investment strategy” is appropriate for the customer’s objectives, a basis reached through reasonable diligence into the customer’s investment profile. FINRA Rule 2010 requires representatives to “observe high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.” Brokers who recommend unsuitable investments may be held liable in the event of losses.
