John Chaney: Bond Complaint Against Moloney Securities Advisor

A recent investor complaint against Phoenix financial advisor John Chaney (CRD# 44529) alleges that his investment advice resulted in losses. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker with Moloney Securities, doing business as Chaney & Associates.

Mr. Chaney’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in May 2023, it alleges that as a representative of Moloney Securities, he recommended unsuitable corporate bond investments and engaged in negligence in connection with these investments in 2019. (Investors should be aware that FINRA Rule 2111, also known as the suitability rule, requires advisors like Mr. Chaney to recommend only investments and strategies that are in keeping with a given client’s background and objectives.) The pending complaint alleges damages of $50,000.

In a statement included with the complaint’s disclosure, Mr. Chaney pushed back against it, writing: “I refute the allegations of the claims.”

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, John Chaney holds 53 years of securities industry experience. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, he has been a broker with Moloney Securities since 2015, doing business as Chaney & Associates. His registration history includes Arque Capital (Sun City, Arizona; 2008-2015), Fox & Company (Scottsdale, Arizona; 1999-2008), Hornor Townsend & Kent (Horsham, Pennsylvania; 1998-1999), American Growth Fund Sponsors (Denver, Colorado; 1990-1998), Anchor National Financial Services (1983-1989), Hartford Equity Sales Corporation (1978-1983), and Continental Management (1969-1983). His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the Registered Representative Examination, or Series 1; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7TO; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63.
