John Trouy: MML Advisor Receives Annuity Complaint

A recent investor complaint against Bellevue, Washington financial advisor John Trouy (CRD# 5966902) alleges that he gave inaccurate advice, resulting in damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with MML Investors Services.

Mr. Trouy’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in July 2026, it alleges that as a representative of MML Investors Services, he “recommended and structured a variable annuity transaction based upon inaccurate tax advice,” resulting in financial harm. The pending complaint alleges unspecified damages.

An unsuitable investment, according to FINRA Rule 2111, is an investment which the broker does not have a reasonable basis to believe is appropriate for their customer’s investment profile. An investor’s profile “includes, but is not limited to, the customer’s age, other investments, financial situation and needs, tax status, investment objectives, investment experience, investment time horizon, liquidity needs, risk tolerance,” and other factors. FINRA-associated brokers are required to perform reasonable diligence to determine a customer’s profile; they must also ensure that the investment in question is not only suitable for some customers, but for the specific customer to whom they are recommending it.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, John Trouy holds 14 years of securities industry experience. Based in Bellevue, Washington, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with MML Investors Services since 2017. His past registrations include MSI Financial Services, Russell Investments, Russell Investments Financial, and MetLife Investors Distribution. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative, or Series 6 Examination; the Uniform Combined State Law Examination, or Series 66; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 29 state licenses. (Information current as of August 16, 2026.)
