Daniel Rust: KCD Financial Advisor Lands $100K-$500K Complaint

A recent investor complaint against Broomfield, Colorado financial advisor Daniel Rust (CRD# 4137833) alleges that his conduct resulted in six-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is registered as a broker and an investment advisor with KCD Financial.

Mr. Rust’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in June 2026, it alleges that as a representative of KCD Financial, he recommended unsuitable private placement investments. The complaint alleges damages of between $100,000 and $500,000.

Investors should be aware of FINRA Rule 2111, which requires brokers to perform “reasonable diligence” on the investments they recommend to their clients in order to ensure that the products are suitable. Suitability refers to an investment’s appropriateness for the customer’s background and objectives: for instance, a risky and illiquid investment would likely be considered unsuitable for a client with a conservative goal focused on preservation and growth. Brokers must ensure that the recommendation is at least suitable for some investors; that it is suitable for the customer to whom they are recommending it; and that, if they are recommending a series of transactions to a customer over whose account they have actual or de facto control, these transactions are suitable when taken together and when viewed in isolation. Brokers who recommend unsuitable investments may be held liable for damages in the event of losses.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Daniel Rust holds 25 years of securities industry experience. Based in Broomfield, Colorado, he has been registered as a broker and an investment advisor with KCD Financial since 2007. His past registrations include AIG Financial Advisors, SunAmerica Securities, and National Planning. His credentials include the passage of five securities industry qualifying exams: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Principal Examination, or Series 26; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65; and the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63. He holds 23 state licenses. (Information current as of August 16, 2026.)
