Gus Mask: Did Ex-Cambridge Advisor Recommend Unsuitable Products?

Fort Worth financial advisor Gus Mask (CRD# 5359820) recently received an investor complaint alleging his conduct resulted in losses exceeding $100,000. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a broker and an investment advisor with Charles Schwab & Company, having previously been registered with USAA Financial Advisors and Cambridge Investment Research.

Mr. Mask’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint. Filed in July 2023, it alleges that as a representative of Cambridge Investment Research, he recommended an investment in a complex alternative product “without regard for the impact it might have on the client.” The pending complaint alleges damages of $150,000.

Investors should be aware that FINRA Rule 2111 requires brokers like Mr. Mask to perform “reasonable diligence” regarding the products they recommend to their customers, with the goal of ensuring that their recommendations are suitable. Brokers who recommend unsuitable investments may be held liable for damages.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Gus Mask holds 14 years of securities industry experience. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with Charles Schwab & Company since 2020. His past registrations include USAA Financial Advisors (Addison, Texas; 2015-2020), Cambridge Investment Research (Dallas, Texas; 2014-2015),  AXA Advisors (Fort Worth, Texas; 2010-2014) and TD Ameritrade (Fort Worth, Texas; 2007-2009). His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He is licensed in California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
