Kevin McGregor: $5 Million Complaint Against Avantax Advisor

Concord, California financial advisor Kevin McGregor (CRD# 2540872) has received an investor complaint alleging his investment advice resulted in seven-figure damages. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that he is a representative of KM Tax & Financial, registered as a broker and an investment advisor with Avantax Investment Services and Avantax Advisory Services.

Mr. McGregor’s BrokerCheck report discloses one investor complaint against him. Filed in April 2022, it alleges that as an Avantax Investment services representative, he caused a tax liability by liquidating the clients’ annuities, “then invested the proceeds in unsuitable equity positions to generate commissions.” The complaint alleges further that he “concealed the transfer of and information regarding the family trust accounts and has not properly registered the family trusts accounts to reflect all trustees.” The pending complaint alleges damages of $5 million.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Kevin McGregor holds 27 years of securities industry experience. Based in Concord, California, he is a representative of KM Tax & Financial, offering securities and advisory services through Avantax Investment Services and Avantax Advisory Services. He has been registered with Avantax as a broker since 1994 and as an investment advisor since 2002. He is also registered with the brokerage’s office in Walnut Creek, California. His credentials include the passage of six securities industry qualifying examinations: the Investment Company Products/Variable Contracts Representative Examination, or Series 6; the Corporate Securities Limited Representative Examination, or Series 62; the Direct Participation Programs Representative Examination, or Series 22; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He is licensed in California, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Washington.  (Information current as of August 9, 2022.)
