Piers Cornelius, Hamid Derbani, Raphael Correa, Tim Hawkins: JP Morgan Advisors Face Complaint

San Francisco financial advisors Piers Cornelius (CRD# 4212172), Tim Hawkins (CRD# 5800637), Hamid Derbani (CRD# 6899972), and Raphael Correa (CRD# 7453023) allegedly recommended unsuitable investments, according to a recent investor complaint. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority records show that each is currently registered as a broker and an investment advisor with JP Morgan Securities.

The advisors’ BrokerCheck reports discloses an identical investor complaint. Filed in April 2024, it alleges that as a representative of JP Morgan Securities, he recommended an unsuitable investment strategy. The pending complaint alleges damages of $103.7 million.

According to its website, JP Morgan offers wealth management strategies for individual and institutional investors. “In a fast-moving and increasingly complex global economy,” its “About Us” page states, “our success depends on how faithfully we adhere to our core principles: delivering exceptional client service, acting with integrity and responsibility and supporting the growth of our employees.” The company operates in more than 100 countries, it adds, with more than 290,000 employees and millions of customers.

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Piers Cornelius holds 23 years of securities industry experience.Based in San Francisco, California, he has been a broker and an investment advisor with JP Morgan Securities since 2009 and 2023, respectively. He was previously registered with JP Morgan Securities in New York, New York from 2000 until 2009. His credentials include the passage of four securities industry qualifying exams: the General Securities Representative Examination, or Series 7; the Securities Industry Essentials Examination, or SIE; the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination, or Series 63; and the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination, or Series 65. He holds 23 state licenses.

Tim Hawkins, meanwhile, holds 13 years of securities industry experience and has been registered with JP Morgan Securities in San Francisco since 2011. He was previously registered with Roth Capital Partners in Newport Beach, California from 2010 until 2011. Hamid Derbani has been registered with JP Morgan since 2018 and holds no previous registration, while Raphael Correa has been at JP Morgan since 2021 and holds no previous registrations.
